England's "Chelsea" became the first winner of the revamped FIFA Club World Cup, beating France's "Paris Saint-Germain" 3-0 in the final. The tournament was held for the first time in a new format with 32 teams in the United States.
In the decisive match held in New York, Cole Palmer scored twice (22nd and 30th minutes), and João Pedro also scored (43rd minute). In the 84th minute, "PSG" player João Neves was sent off.
"Chelsea" finished the season in fourth place in the English Premier League, reached the fourth round of the FA Cup and League Cup, and also won the Conference League.
"PSG" approached the Club World Cup having won all tournaments of the previous season. The Parisian team became the champion of France, the winner of the Cup and the Super Cup of the country, and also won the Champions League for the first time in history.
"Chelsea" received more than 115 million USD in prize money for winning the tournament. European teams receive between 12,81 million USD and 38,19 million USD for participation, depending on the ranking based on sporting and commercial criteria. The total prize fund for the competition is 1 billion USD, FIFA reported earlier.
"Chelsea" footballer Cole Palmer was named the tournament's best player. "Chelsea" goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was named the World Cup's best goalkeeper, while "PSG" midfielder Desire Doue was named the best young player. "Real" Madrid's Gonzalo Garcia was the tournament's top scorer, scoring four goals in six matches.
