Projects by students from Turkmenistan won gold at the Borneo International Innovation Creativity Competition (BIICC), held in the Malaysian city of Kuching from June 26 to 30.
The Turkmen delegation was represented by a team from the Oguz han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan, which included senior lecturer Atamyrat Altiyev and 3rd year students Suleymanmuhammet Shamuhammedov and Tumar Orpayeva, reports "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".
Suleymanmuhammet Shamuhammedov's project "Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection: Scientific Foundations of Green Cement Production" won three high awards at the forum: a gold medal in the environmental science nomination, the "Platinum Award" - one of the highest awards of the competition, and the "Sustainable Development Award".
The author of the project proposes alternative methods of cement production using coal ash and local raw materials, aimed at reducing carbon emissions and reducing the risks of environmental impact. According to the jury, this solution is also an important contribution to sustainable urban development.
The jury highly praised the project of Tumar Orpayeva "Obtaining a carbon dioxide-capturing sorbent from agricultural waste", who worked under the supervision of senior lecturer Saparmurat Ovezsahedov. Tumar received a gold medal in the environmental science competition.
In her work, she presented a method for producing a highly porous sorbent from agricultural waste such as rice husks, cotton stalks, grape residues and mulberry fruits, and scientifically proved its effectiveness in absorbing carbon dioxide.
The leader of the team from Turkmenistan, senior teacher Atamyrat Altiyev, was awarded the gold medal “Borneo International Leaders and Educators Award” for his contribution to the development of the education system.
BIICC 2025 is registered in the Malaysia Book of Records as the most attended international STEM event. The forum featured 1460 scientific projects presented by over 4500 young scientists from Malaysia, Turkmenistan, Bangladesh, India, the Philippines, Thailand, Egypt, the UAE, Indonesia, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, El Salvador, Kazakhstan and Vietnam, the source notes.
