According to state-owned China Railways (CR), 953 million passenger train trips are expected during the summer travel rush that began on Tuesday, up 58 percent from the same period in 2024, Xinhua reported.
Summer is traditionally the busiest time of year for China's rail network, with students returning home en masse for the holidays and families travelling around the country, putting a strain on the system.
