Manchester City have announced the signing of a contract with Uzbekistan national team defender Abdukodir Khusanov. The 20-year-old footballer moved from the French club Lens and became the first player from Uzbekistan in the history of the English Premier League (EPL). The contract is calculated until the summer of 2029.
According to Transfermarkt, the transfer amounted to 40 million euros, which makes this transfer the most expensive in the history of Uzbek football. Previously, the record belonged to Eldor Shomurodov, who moved from Genoa to Roma for 19.6 million euros in the 2021/22 season.
Before Lens, Khusanov played for the Belarusian club Energetik-BGU, from where he moved to the French club in the summer of 2023 for 100 thousand euros. He played 31 matches for Lens, and played 18 matches for the Uzbekistan national team.
It is worth noting that in Energetik-BGU, Khusanov’s teammate was the defender of the Turkmenistan national team Vepa Jumayev, who now plays for Vitebsk.
