RMS Titanic Inc, the company with exclusive rights to research and recover artifacts from the Titanic, has reported a significant change in the appearance of the famous vessel. A segment of the deck railing, approximately 4.7 meters long, located at the bow of the ship, has collapsed and sunk to the ocean floor, RIA Novosti reports.
This section of the ship became especially famous thanks to the iconic scene from James Cameron’s film Titanic. The company’s representatives emphasized that the silhouette of the ship’s bow has long been a key element in images and stories about the legendary liner.
The scene showing the now missing section of the railing can be seen in the 1997 film, where the main characters Jack and Rose stand at the railing on the bow of the ship.
RMS Titanic Inc noted that this change in the appearance of the ship serves as a reminder of the ongoing process of destruction of the Titanic and strengthens the researchers’ desire to preserve its historical legacy.
The company also reported an interesting discovery made during a recent expedition. A bronze statue of the Roman goddess Diana, thought lost for decades, was found on the seabed. The statue had previously adorned the fireplace in the first-class cabin, part of the luxurious interior that surrounded the liner’s wealthiest passengers.
