1. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov appointed Gulshat Sahyevna Mammedova as hyakim of the city of Arkadag. The head of state signed the corresponding Resolution during a workshop on the digital system with the participation of regional heads. At the post of hyakim of a “smart” city of national significance, Mammedova replaced Shamuhammet Durdylyev, who, by another presidential decree, was relieved of his position “for health reasons”.
2. On May 9, a military parade dedicated to the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 will be held in Moscow. Presidents of a number of states are expected to attend the ceremonial events, including President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Together with Russian President Vladimir Putin, foreign leaders will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and will also be spectators at a military parade on Red Square.
3. The TV channel “My Planet” intends to make a documentary film about Turkmenistan. In this regard, a film crew is expected to arrive in Ashgabat on May 10. Filming will take place at cultural and historical monuments of Turkmenistan. The film crew will visit the “Avaza” tourist zone, Mary velayat and other locations.
4. The United States Senate approved the appointment of Elizabeth Rood as US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan. Rood's candidacy for the post of head of the diplomatic mission in Ashgabat was nominated by President Joe Biden in August 2022 when forming new appointments in the administration. Elizabeth Rood is an experienced career diplomat with the rank of Minister Counsellor. Before that, she worked as Deputy US Ambassador in Moscow, and also held various positions in diplomatic missions in the CIS countries.
5. Within the framework of the project to strengthen the clinical and laboratory services of the national health care system, financed by the government of Turkmenistan and implemented by the United Nations Development Program, the modernization of laboratories in Ahal velayat and Ashgabat was successfully completed. Modern equipment for conducting a wide range of tests has been installed in 10 clinical laboratories in Ahal velayat and 28 laboratories in the Turkmen capital. The laboratories are also provided with the necessary consumables and reagents.

7. 1,6 million people attended Madonna's free concert in Rio de Janeiro. It marked the grand finale of her Celebration World Tour. 8. Turkmen athletes won 23 medals of various denominations at the first international karate tournament WKF “UZBEKISTAN OPEN 2024” that ended in Urgench. The competition brought together 293 participants from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The Turkmenistan team included 74 athletes, 7 coaches and 10 referees. Based on the results of all types of programs, the Turkmen team won 5 gold, 5 silver and 13 bronze medals.
9. The Turkmenistan Futsal Super League kicked off with two matches in Ashgabat. Six clubs are fighting for the title of champion of Turkmenistan. Three of them – “Kopetdag”, “Senagatbank” and “Migration” represent Ashgabat, two – “Denizchi” and TOPC from Turkmenbashy – Balkan velayat and “Turan” – Dashoguz velayat. The first four rounds of the Turkmenistan Super League 2024 are taking place in Ashgabat - in the gym of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports.
