Scientists from the UK and Finland conducted a study that showed that the abuse of fatty, sweet and high-calorie foods in childhood can lead to serious health problems in the future. This is reported by gazeta.ru with reference to the British Journal of Nutrition.

Researchers analyzed the eating habits of more than 4,700 people aged 7 to 17 years. They further measured the stiffness of the participants' arteries, which is a key risk factor for stroke and heart attack.

The results showed that people who ate a lot of fatty, sweet and high-calorie foods as children had more stiff arteries than those who ate a more balanced diet.

Consumption of anti-inflammatory plant foods, such as berries, vegetables, seeds, nuts and spices, led to a decrease in arterial stiffness at age 10.

Scientists explain that poor nutrition can harm health even at a young age, accelerating the aging process of arteries and increasing the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.
