The city of Turkmenabat in Lebap velayat became the venue for the next meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission on Water Issues. The event was attended by leaders and representatives of relevant government agencies from two neighboring countries, TDH reports.

The agenda included issues of practical implementation of previously reached agreements, as well as determining prospects for further partnership in this area.

Opening the meeting, the co-chairs of the commissions noted the high level of Turkmen-Uzbek relations based on the principles of equality, good neighborliness, mutual trust and mutual benefit. The desire of both countries to make maximum use of the existing potential for joint implementation of projects was emphasized.

Currently, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, given the similarity of approaches to key issues of international politics, demonstrate their readiness to build up productive relations that meet not only mutual interests, but also the goals of well-being and prosperity of the entire region.

Noting the positive dynamics of relations in priority areas, the parties confirmed their readiness to continue constructive ties in the field of agriculture and water management. Particular attention was paid to the rational and careful use of water resources.

Combining joint efforts in realizing existing opportunities will in the near future give a qualitatively new content to Turkmen-Uzbek cooperation.

Emphasis was placed on the need for regular bilateral meetings to discuss water use issues.
