To protect users from cyber threats, the UK has introduced new rules setting minimum cybersecurity standards for gadget manufacturers. This is reported by 3dnews.ru with reference to The Guardian.

It is now prohibited to sell devices with preset simple passwords such as admin or "12345". Manufacturers should inform users about the timing of security updates for their devices.

These measures are aimed at increasing the level of cybersecurity of devices connected to the Internet, reducing the risks of hacker attacks and protecting users’ personal data.

Many experts and consumer protection organizations welcomed the new rules, but some expressed concerns that the responsibility for cybersecurity was being shifted solely to manufacturers. While users must also take care of the protection of their data on their own.
