In an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and respect the environment, Deutsche Bahn, Germany's national rail carrier, has begun turning off information boards at train stations when they are not needed.

The new initiative has already reached 250 stations across the country. Digital displays automatically switch to standby mode 15 minutes after the train departs, activating 30 minutes before the next train arrives. When changes are made to the schedule, the boards are also turned on.

The effectiveness of the innovation has been thoroughly tested at several train stations in Berlin and 100 other sites throughout Germany. Test results showed that the energy savings from three stations per month are equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of an average household.

Deutsche Bahn has committed to becoming a climate neutral company by 2040. Euro-pulse.ru reports this.
