About the Institution
Magtymguly Turkmen State University was founded in 1931 as Ashgabat Pedagogical Institute. In 1950 the Institute was reorganized into the Turkmen State University. Now it is named after Magtymguly, the great Turkmen poet and thinker.
The university is supplied with the material and technical basis meeting modern world standards. There are modern classrooms, research rooms, Internet classrooms, various laboratories and libraries located in 6 educational buildings. There are also students’ residence, sport complexes, cafeterias and canteens.
Magtymguly Turkmen State University has been keeping scientific, educational and cultural ties with foreign higher educational institutions.
At present over 8041 students study in Turkmen State University.
There are 12 faculties (Mathematics, Information Technology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Turkmen Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, Roman-German and Oriental Languages, History, Law, Professional Development), 37 departments, where students are trained in 14 fields of study and 33 different specialties, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in several courses.
