According to research company Rho Motion, only four automakers specializing in the production of electric and hybrid vehicles were able to complete the 2024 financial year with a positive margin. Analysts note that some companies have prospects for achieving profitability in the near future, while others continue to exist solely due to constant infusions from investors, Auto.ru reports with reference to Carscoops.

The leading position in profitability was taken by the American company Tesla with a margin of 7,2% for 2024. In second place is the Chinese concern BYD with a result of 6,4%. At the same time, experts, analyzing the dynamics of previous years, predict that BYD is consistently increasing the profitability of its business and can potentially bypass Tesla in the future. The remaining two companies with a positive financial result also represent the Chinese auto industry - Li Auto and Seres Group.

A number of manufacturers, including Zeekr, Xpeng and Leapmotor, are currently operating at a loss, but are consistently reducing negative indicators and, according to experts, may soon reach breakeven. Analysts also include American Rivian and Swedish-Chinese Polestar in this category.

Lucid, which produces the premium Air sedan and the recently unveiled Gravity crossover, is recognized as the most financially problematic company. At the end of 2024, its negative margin was 374%. Despite some improvement in indicators compared to 2023, when the gap between income and expenses exceeded 500%, the company continues to operate mainly due to financial support from investors.
