The cryptocurrency industry is facing the largest digital asset theft in its history. As Bloomberg reports, citing a statement from Bybit CEO Ben Zhou, attackers gained unauthorized access to the exchange's offline Ethereum wallet, stealing 1,46 billion USD worth of cryptocurrency.
According to the analytical company Arkham Intelligence, hackers organized a series of suspicious transactions, during which about 1,4 billion USD was withdrawn. The stolen funds were transferred to new addresses and subsequently began to be sold on the market.
The incident significantly surpasses the previous record-breaking cryptocurrency fraud, which saw 611 million USD stolen from the Poly Network platform in 2021.
