The fifth annual RBWLC (RAK Biggest Weight Loss Challenge) is being launched in the United Arab Emirates, running from February 21 to May 22. Participants are offered a unique opportunity to receive a reward of up to 300 dirhams (about 82 USD) for every kilogram lost, reports russianemirates.com.

The competition organisers have provided several categories of participation. In the in-person category, men and women who show the best results will receive cash prizes from 100 to 300 dirhams for each kilogram lost. Participants in the remote category will be able to win travel packages, health programmes and memberships to fitness centres.

A special feature this year is the introduction of a family category, where groups of three or more people can participate together. The family that achieves the highest average weight loss will be awarded valuable vouchers. There is also a corporate category and a special nomination for employees of educational institutions.

According to RAK Hospital, the problem of excess weight affects about 40% of adults and children in the UAE, leading to the development of serious diseases. The hospital's executive director, Dr Raza Siddiqui, notes the growing popularity of the competition not only in the UAE but also abroad.

The previous season of the competition attracted more than 18 thousand participants, with a prize fund of 40 thousand dirhams. One of the most impressive results was shown by a 31-year-old expat, who lost 30 kg and received a prize of 9 thousand dirhams.

Registration for the competition is free and open to all. In-person participants must be weighed in at RAK Hospital, while remote participants can do so at any local clinic.
