Google has implemented a previously announced change to its mapping service, renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf for US users. At the same time, for other users of the service around the world, both names will be displayed - both the Gulf of Mexico and the American Gulf. RT reports this in its Telegram channel.
US President Donald Trump announced his intention to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf on January 20 in his inauguration speech.
“The American Gulf, formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico, is one of the most important assets in the nation's history and economy,” the U.S. Department of the Interior said in a statement.
